Vintage Cakes: The Pink Cake

THE VERY PINK OF PERFECTION.”  Oliver Goldsmith

The Pink Cake | From My Sweet Heart

May I just start off by telling you how much I LOVE pink desserts?!  So when Paloma of The Coffee Shop, and leader of The Cake Slice bakers told us that The Pink Cake was up next, I was delighted. It most definitely is….a very pink perfection!  The book we are baking from is Vintage Cakes by Julie Richardson.  And this particular cake is an original of hers and one that is featured at her bakery, Baker & Spice.  Pink to me is such a shabby chic vintage color.  And so this recipe fits really well into this book of retro cakes.

This is a rich, moist but light chocolate cake surrounded by a silky Swiss buttercream.  How does the buttercream get it’s beautiful pink color? [Read more...]

Raspberry Madeleines with Meyer Lemon Curd

FIND SOMETHING YOU’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND KEEP TREMENDOUSLY INTERESTED IN IT.”  Julia Child

Raspberry Madeleines with Meyer Lemon Curd | From My Sweet Heart

Today I am participating in a very special Valentine’s Day Celebration Event.  Anna, from Crunchy Creamy Sweet has been hosting some amazing and creative bloggers with their favorite sweet recipes.  I wanted to share a new twist on one of my most favorite cookies…..madeleines!  As if madeleines were not the perfect sweet, soft little cookie already.  Right?  Well these were baked with a raspberry in each and a little bit of tart meyer lemon curd piped in!

Anna is such a dear blogging friend to me.  She shares the most fabulous and unique desserts.  But it’s her photography that can literally take my breath away.  I mean jaw dropping, beautiful and stunning photos that really entice you and make you want that dessert right now.  Just look at these Double Chocolate Breakfast Cookies with Zing.  (Anyone who makes cookies for breakfast is okay in my book!)  Or Thomas Keller’s Brownies. Or her Chocolate Molasses Bundt Cake.

But it’s her quality of character that I love the most.  Anna is such a kind, generous and caring person.  So full of grace.  And this is so evident in the work that she does on her very lovely blog.  You will understand instantly when you visit.

Raspberry White Chocolate Mousse

A BLUSH IS MODESTY’S FIRST IMPULSE AND SOPHISTICATION’S AFTER THOUGHT.”  Anonymous

Raspberry White Chocolate Mousse | From My Sweet Heart

There are many variations on chocolate mousse.  But I think none are more elegant than those made with white chocolate.

This white chocolate mousse recipe is a lightly sweet canvas for any variety of fruit, flavors and garnishes.  Here, I’ve topped mine with some simple berries and grated white chocolate and white chocolate shavings.  What gives it it’s pretty blush?. . . . .

“THE SWEET TOOTH IS A GLOBAL PHENOMENON, AND THERE ARE DELIGHTFUL NUGGETS TO BE FOUND EVERYWHERE.”  Mark Bittman

Chocolate Hazelnut Tartlets | From My Sweet Heart

Delightful nuggets, indeed!  I don’t know about you, but I always love having a ‘whole something’ all to myself.  Not a slice or a piece….but my own little dessert, no matter how small!  And I’ve become enamored with petite sweets.  Maybe it’s for that reason.  But when ‘indulging in moderation’, it’s nice to have a one or two bite dessert.  And I think they are also easier to eat and serve when entertaining.  I found this dessert in Yankee magazine.  And being a New England girl at heart, I just had to try it!  A delicate and buttery, hazelnut shell is filled with rich, chocolate ganache  and just a sweet hint of raspberry!  Check it out….. Petit Fours | From My Sweet Heart

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

I’m sitting here with my lower lip out because this day just isn’t the same without Jeff and Matt here.  I think Mother’s Day should be moved to the summer, when my guys will be back from school.  I’m not sure if I am really missing them, or if I am just missing the opportunity to have yard work done or my car cleaned inside and out!  (I am usually good for milking whatever work I can from them on this day!)  So to make myself feel better, I made some little cakes!  These are sweet and simple.  But let me tell you what I learned about working with the fondant icing…..
