Cinnamon Applesauce Tart

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO MAKE A FRIEND, GO TO SOMEONE’S HOUSE AND EAT WITH HIM…THE PEOPLE WHO GIVE YOU THEIR FOOD GIVE YOU THEIR HEART.”  Cesar Chavez

Cinnamon Applesauce Tart | From My Sweet Heart

How often do you cheat yourself out of a really good meal or a fabulous dessert because you are eating alone?

Just me tonight?  I won’t bother to cook.  I’ll just throw together a sandwich for dinner and scoop a little Ben & Jerry’s for dessert.

But when you are having dinner with friends, all of a sudden the food you eat matters, and what you make has to be extra special.  After all, it’s a reflection of yourself and a display of affection and gratitude for your friends.  Tonight, Eileen from  The Joy of Caking has invited me to join her and some of our amazing blogging friends for a lovely and unique Fall Harvest Dinner.  I’m bringing one of my most favorite desserts.  Home made applesauce lightly sweetened and spiced fills a flaky, buttery crust and is topped with thinly sliced apples, all sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Concord Grape Tart

WE SHOULD ALL DO WHAT, IN THE LONG RUN, GIVES US JOY, EVEN IF IT IS ONLY PICKING GRAPES OR SORTING THE LAUNDRY.”  E.B. White

Concord Grape Tart | From My Sweet Heart

What brings you joy?

For me it has always been the simplest of pleasures.  There is something to be said for the feeling of having tackled your laundry and being able to move forward in your day.  And how awesome it would be if your day could include some grape picking, too!

For me, a morning of grape picking would certainly lead to an afternoon of tart baking.  And this humble fruit tart has a flaky, buttery crust which is filled with the sweetness of home made concord grape jam.  Simple in both flavor and execution! [Read more...]

Orange and Brown Butter Tart

FRIENDSHIP MARKS A LIFE EVEN MORE DEEPLY THAN LOVE.  LOVE RISKS DEGENERATING INTO OBSESSION, FRIENDSHIP IS NEVER ANYTHING BUT SHARING.”  Elie Wiesel

Orange and Brown Butter Tart | From My Sweet Heart

Aside from the opportunity to bake my buns off, what I’ve enjoyed most about blogging are the many friendships I have made along the way.  Whether we are sharing information about food, computers, social media, or photography; food bloggers as a group are some of the most generous and giving people I have ever met.

MJ, of MJ’s Kitchen, is one of those people!  Visiting her site DOES feel like sitting with her in her kitchen; where she lovingly prepares her southern and southwestern inspired dishes.  My favorites are her Black Eyed Pea Chipotle Dip, Spicy Pumpkin and Red Chile Soup, and Caramel Apple Pie.  And you don’t want to miss her Kitchen Remodel! I was pretty envious of that!  MJ is warm and caring, and always has a kind, sincere and supportive comment that usually leaves me grinning big or laughing right out loud.

Today, I am sharing a recipe for an Orange and Brown Butter Tart with her.  A pistachio crust is filled with a sweet brown butter custard and dressed with Grand Marnier glazed oranges.  But this easy tart can be varied in so many ways.  (I’m thinking about spring and summer’s beautiful fruits and berries already!).  I chose to close out the month with a variety of oranges!

This recipe may be found at MJ’s Kitchen.  Go for the friendship and take a peek at her many unique and beautifully photographed dishes while you are there.  I guarantee that you will come away with far more than a good recipe for a great meal!

Candy Cream Tart

“SWEET LIKE CANDY TO MY SOUL…..SWEET YOU ROCK AND SWEET YOU ROLL…..”  Dave Matthews

Candy Cream Tart | From My Sweet Heart

Who doesn’t like candy???  I do!!!  But oddly, I’m just not one to sit down and eat a whole candy bar.  Sometimes I will go to the Godiva store and put together a box of chocolates for myself, choosing the pieces that look interesting and appealing to me.  I sneak into that box for a little reward; or if I want a little pick me up.  But I can make that box last a really  long time!  Well this candy tart really rocks!  And here’s why…….
