Has everyone been enjoying their sweet summer corn? The corn here in Maryland has been a little hit and miss this year. Actually, I’ve had some ears that have been down right wonky! So for this month’s Improv Cooking Challenge, I am opting to bake with cornmeal! Kristen, from The Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker has challenged us to use corn and butter as the key ingredients in our recipes. And I’ve decided to put a slightly exotic spin on the traditional spoon bread by adding . . . . . [Read more...]
After sitting out last month I am so happy to be back participating in the Improv Cooking Challenge!
This fun group of cooks, chefs, bakers, bloggers is hosted by Kristen from The Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker. And every month, Kristen gives us 2 ingredients to incorporate into a recipe of our choice. Can you guess from the picture what we worked with this month? . . . . . [Read more...]
YES! Peanut butter and Jelly in ice cream! Because…..it’s the Improv Cooking Challenge!
I took a short break and some much needed time to catch my breath; and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to participate in this month’s challenge. But I just love this group. And I couldn’t resist! And so I admit…..I kept it simple for myself this time. What I came up with is SIMPLY DELICIOUS and almost addictive! Thanks so much to Kristen from the Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker for being the wonderful hostess for such a great group of food fanatics! I am looking forward to seeing what everyone did with our two key ingredients this month….peanut butter and jelly! These ingredients were likely suspects for an ice cream because not only do I like my ice cream sweet…..but oddly, I prefer it salty, too! My PB & J’s are always made with my favorite, strawberry jam, and it’s so easy to make from scratch. Come try this! It’s rich, creamy, sweet and salty. And it couldn’t be easier….. [Read more...]
I wait all month for this day to come! Kitchen Improv!
Thanks once again to Kristen from The Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker for being the fabulous host of Kitchen Improv! This is my absolute favorite group to participate in. Kristen challenges us with 2 ingredients each month. Sometimes the ways these ingredients can work together is obvious, and other times….not so much. This month was pretty easy. Potatoes and cheese! So where do I go to get inspiration to bake for my favorite group? To my favorite market…..Trader Joe’s!
And when I walked to the produce section, these purple potatoes were just waiting for me! Beckoning me, if you will, to scoop them up and hurry on over to get the cheese! Trader Joe’s always has such a great selection of cheese. And wow, did I find an interesting one…… [Read more...]
It’s Kitchen Improv!!!
Have you ever watched Chopped on The Food Network? It’s one of my favorite shows! How those chefs combine 4 totally obscure ingredients in the most cohesive way in 20 minutes is mind blowing to me! And though I’d love the challenge, it would take me days to figure out how to put them all together!
Luckily for me, I’ve found a more reasonable, realistic, and fun version of this concept. It’s called The Improv Cooking Challenge. And it is hosted by Kristen from The Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker. If Kristen is a harried homemaker, you would never know it. She’s a wonderful chef, baker, blogger, mother, whose site is filled with amazing recipes for “family style cooking, frugal tips, and an occasional random post”. And it is awesome!
The premise of The Improv Cooking Challenge is that each month we are given 2 ingredients to incorporate into a recipe of our choice. I can do that! This month, we were to utilize lemons and sour cream. A fabulous combination! Let me show you how I worked them into a scrumptious and lemony cupcake filled with a creamy lemon and blueberry filling. Hopefully, I won’t be hearing Kristen say, “Chef Anne, you’ve been chopped!” [Read more...]
