Whiskey Pear Trifles

“THE LIGHT MUSIC OF WHISKEY FALLING INTO GLASSES MADE AN AGREEABLE INTERLUDE.”  James Joyce

Whiskey Pear Trifles | From My Sweet Heart

There was a time when I would have told you that I don’t care very much for whiskey.  But then, I decided to make some Home Made Irish Cream.  You know, that wonderful creamy liqueur that has you believing you are drinking an adult milkshake?  That stuff contains a whole bottle of whiskey!  And now Jameson’s Irish Whiskey is among my favorites.  I’ve used it for this recipe, too!

This recipe makes the top 3 of my favorite recipes on this blog!  So simple to make, yet the combination of flavors and textures is so sublimeCinnamon raisin bread, vanilla bean custard, pralines, pears, whipped cream, and the most delicious maple whiskey sauce imaginable!  A little something different in every spoonful! Honey Almond Panna Cotta with Lemon Thyme Peaches

SHALL I PART MY HAIR BEHIND?  DO I DARE TO EAT A PEACH?”  T.S. Eliot

Honey Almond Panna Cotta with Lemon Thyme Peaches | From My Sweet Heart

Shall I put herbs in my dessert?

I must!  Because Kristen of The Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker, and leader of The Improv Cooking Challenge has compelled us to create something using peaches and herbs!  And before you know it, she’ll have us all ‘shaking our groove thing’, too!  Thanks Kristen, I’ll have disco in my head for weeks now!  But each month Kristen gives us 2 ingredients to incorporate into a recipe of our choice. This month I am pairing peaches with thyme!

This dessert is so unique.  And I have fallen in love with the soft, creaminess of panna cotta.  I hope you will love it, too! [Read more...]

Coconut Risotto

“PULL UP A CHAIR.  TAKE A TASTE.  COME JOIN US.  LIFE IS SO ENDLESSLY DELICIOUS.”  Ruth Reichl

Coconut Risotto | From My Sweet Heart

Most days, I think we can all benefit from a little ‘group therapy’.  And my favorite online group to participate in is the  Improv Cooking Challenge.  Kristen, from The Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker, is the wonderful creator and leader of this great group of chefs/bakers/bloggers/food fanatics!  Each month, Kristen gives us two ingredients to toss together in the recipe of our choice.  And my fellow Improvers come up with the most amazing stuff!

Kristen’s blog is all about food and family. And while she cooks full flour for her family; she is gluten free.   Her motto is “delicious doesn’t have to be expensive.” And I couldn’t agree more!   Kristen is running a new feature on her site to introduce her readers to ‘The Improvers’.  And today, I am so happy and grateful to be a guest on Kristen’s blog!  And so I’ve chosen to make. . . . . Raspberry White Chocolate Mousse

A BLUSH IS MODESTY’S FIRST IMPULSE AND SOPHISTICATION’S AFTER THOUGHT.”  Anonymous

Raspberry White Chocolate Mousse | From My Sweet Heart

There are many variations on chocolate mousse.  But I think none are more elegant than those made with white chocolate.

Peaches and Cream Brulee

“LIFE IS BETTER THAN DEATH, I BELIEVE, IF ONLY BECAUSE IT IS LESS BORING, AND IT HAS FRESH PEACHES IN IT.”  Alice Walker

Peaches and Cream Brulee | From My Sweet Heart

You like peaches, right?  I thought so!

And how about crème brûlée?  YES!  Me, too!!!

So it’s inevitable…..they have to come together!  Two simple flavors come together to create such a sweet medley in your mouth.  Just get yourself some of these fresh, ripe, juicy peaches…..mix a simple sweet vanilla custard on the stove.  A sprinkling of sugar….and a little caramelization!  This is going down as one of my all time favorite summer desserts!   Wait till you see what it looks like when you start scooping!!!…… [Read more...]

Sophisticated S’Mores

“I THINK EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE A BLOWTORCH.”  Julia Child

Sophisticated S'Mores | From My Sweet Heart

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!

This is an exciting day for 2 reasons.  The first is that my son, Jeff, left this morning as part of a group of meteorologists, who will be storm chasing in the midwest.  I am not sure where he will be over the next couple of weeks yet, but I pray that he will stay safe while having the experience of a lifetime.  The second is that I got to use my new kitchen blowtorch!  Very cool.  And much easier than trying to put something under the broiler while watching it carefully!

THESE S’MORES ARE YUMMLY!!!  You really do get all your favorite, familiar flavors from a S’more…the buttery graham cracker crust, a very decadent, creamy, chocolate center, and a light, sweet, marshmallowy top.  It’s just a little more sophisticated.   Oh, and let me tell you about the booze…… [Read more...]

Chocolate Risotto

“PUT ‘EAT MORE CHOCOLATE’ AT THE TOP OF YOUR LIST OF THINGS TO DO TODAY.  THAT WAY, AT LEAST YOU’LL GET ONE THING DONE.”  Author Unknown

Chocolate Risotto | From My Sweet Heart

Today, I awoke, literally with this recipe on my mind! I have never attempted risotto before because I have always imagined it to be a complicated process.  But I first saw this chocolate risotto recipe made on one of the cooking shows featuring David Rocco.  And he actually had 2 young kids helping him make it.  So I thought, how difficult could this be?  Let me tell you…..it was a cinch!  Tender rice covered with sweet, rich chocolate and topped with toasted walnuts.  I’ve been wanting to share it with everyone for some time.  And so today, it just seemed like  ‘it’s now or never’!
