Raspberry Madeleines with Meyer Lemon Curd | From My Sweet Heart

These cookies were shared in 2011 at a very special Valentine’s Day Celebration Event.  Anna, from Crunchy Creamy Sweet hosted some amazing and creative bloggers with their favorite sweet recipes.  I wanted to share a new twist on one of my most favorite cookies…..madeleines!

As if madeleines were not the perfect sweet, soft little cookie already.  Right?  Well these were baked with a raspberry in each and a little bit of tart meyer lemon curd piped in! [Read more...]

Orange Shortbread with Fleur de Sel

“COOKIES ARE MADE OF BUTTER AND LOVE.”  Norwegian Proverb

Orange Shortbread with Fleur de Sel | From My Sweet Heart

My absolute favorite cookie in the world is shortbread.  They are so easy to make and so pure in flavor.  These cookies are light and buttery, with a simple sweet flavor.  It’s a pretty classic recipe, with a few little twists.  And one slight change for the sake of necessity and what I had in my pantry. . . . . Black & White Biscotti

IT’S NOT HOW MUCH WE GIVE BUT HOW MUCH LOVE WE PUT INTO GIVING.”  Mother Teresa

Black and White Biscotti | From My Sweet Heart

I think for those of us who love to bake and cook; what we produce is usually made with love.  Passion is usually the common ingredient in every recipe.  But when we give food as gifts, I think we take extra care in making sure that our end result is as special as the recipients.  Since I have this mad passion for making sweet things, I tend to give food as gifts all year round.  Biscotti is one of the easiest and most practical things to gift.  It really keeps well for a longer period of time, which is perfect if you are putting these in the mail!

I found this recipe for Black and White Biscotti on the King Arthur Flour website and I just LOVE them!   Sweet vanilla and deep, rich chocolate always pair well together.  Add a sprinkling of sugar and they are ready for dunking!

Ginger Chili Caramel Cookies

Pass the Plate.  Share the Love.  Cook for the Cure.

Ginger Chili Caramel Cookies | From My Sweet Heart

The thing I’ve loved most about blogging, aside from the wonderful friendships I’ve made, is the opportunity to bake for a greater good.  I was recently invited by Sandra at Sweet Sensations to take part in a very special event.  Sharon & Denise of  Be Betsy, were inspired by Kitchenaid’s Cook for the Cure® to join the fight against breast cancer.  They purchased a plate specially designed by Jacques Pepin.  The plate is filled with cookies and literally passed from blogger to blogger.  Each time the plate reaches a new destination, Kitchenaid donates $5 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®I am so proud and honored to be a part of this campaign.

I received these beautiful dipped chocolate sandwich cookies from Sandra at Sweet Sensations.

They were amazing!  I literally polished off 2 of them before it struck me that I need to photograph them first!  Many of you who visit here already know Sandra.  I am in awe of her!  She is a working mother who takes such good care of her family, while writing a beautiful blog full of wonderful recipes and fabulous ideas on how to host the perfect party and create a gorgeous tablescape.  (All while nursing a torn tendon!)  When you read about her, you will learn that she is a woman of great strength and courage.  And I wonder if she knows what a great source of inspiration she is to me?!  I am so happy to know her and I appreciate so much that she included me in this awesome event!

So. . . . . from Michigan to Maryland.  Where are the cookies traveling to next??? . . . . . [Read more...]

Brooksters

Good BAKED SUNDAY MORNING!

Brooksters | From My Sweet Heart

Baked Sunday Mornings is a group of bakers/bloggers who are fanatical about baking from the cookbooks of Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito.  The group started off with Baked:  New Frontiers in Baking.  I jumped in with Baked Explorations.  And now, the group will also be baking from the authors’ latest book, Baked Elements.  This morning we are featuring a recipe from the new book.  And it’s a good one!  The Brookster That wonderful combination of sweet, fudgey brownie and soft, chewy chocolate chip cookie.  Is there any more dynamic duo? Pie Fries with Strawberry Ketchup

“LEFTOVERS IN THEIR LESS VISIBLE FORM ARE CALLED MEMORIES.  STORED IN THE REFRIGERATOR OF THE MIND AND THE CUPBOARD OF THE HEART.”  Thomas Fuller

Pie Fries with Strawberry Ketchup | From My Sweet Heart

I often find that most food tastes better as leftovers, when it’s had time to sit and let the ingredients and flavors meld.  But what I am really finding, as I bake, is that an ingredient for one recipe often drives the idea for another.  I simply don’t want to waste, an often costly ingredient, and I want to use it up to the extent that I can.  And so this morning I was making a pâte sucrée for some Pineapple Coconut Tarts.  And I decided to turn the scraps into these delicious little cookies to be dipped in the leftover strawberry jam that I made from my Peanut Butter and Jelly Ice Cream.

Honestly, these were so surprisingly good, I’d consider making sweet pastry crust just for the purpose of making a big batch of these cookies!  Or if you need a quick and easy dessert, you could even buy the pie crust dough, roll it, cut it and toss a little sprinkling sugar before baking for about 15 minutes.  Serve with your favorite jam for dipping.  I’ll never throw out those scraps again!

Mandarin Orange & Pistachio Meringues

“THE AIR UP THERE IN THE CLOUDS IS VERY PURE AND FINE, BRACING AND DELICIOUS.  AND WHY SHOULDN’T IT BE?  IT IS THE SAME THE ANGELS BREATHE.”  Mark Twain

Mandarin Orange & Pistachio Meringues | From My Sweet Heart

There was a time when I dreamed about traveling state to state, stopping off to see a baseball game played in every stadium in the country.  Well that dream has changed only slightly.  I would much rather travel the country visiting bakeries!  Have you seen the show Unique Sweets?  Well they often have a theme for each show, but they basically feature several bakeries across the country and one of the sweets that they are famous for.  One show featured the bakery, Proof, in Los Angeles.  And one of the things Proof is known for are these meringues which are about the size of your hand and filled with flavor!  They offer chocolate and pistachio, citrus and coconut, and strawberry.  What fascinated me is that the strawberry was made with dehydrated strawberries.  So I did my best to recreate these using….. Coconut & Salted Caramel Thumbprints

“WHAT YOU LOVE IS AS UNIQUE TO YOU AS YOUR FINGERPRINTS.”  Barbara Sher

Coconut & Salted Caramel Thumbprints | From My Sweet Heart

I have never read any of the books written by Barbara Sher.  But I do agree with her belief that nothing will make you really happy but doing what you love.  We change so much as people over time.  Growth…..sometimes painful, but always a good thing!  And sometimes there are aspects of ourselves that have remained the same. I know that I have enjoyed writing since I was in the 7th grade!  And I still do!  And yet, it seems I’ve had to experience half of my life to realize how much I love to bake!  Thumbprint cookies are pretty common.  But it’s what you do to them that makes them unique to you.  And for me, that can only mean one thing….. Cranberry Cherry Ribbon Cookies | From My Sweet Heart

I never bake (or eat!) so many cookies as I do around Christmas time!  And every season I always try something new.  These cookies were made at Christmas 2011, when Jen at The Three Little Piglets invited me to do a guest post for her Twelve Days of Christmas Cookies series!  Aside from their beautiful color, sweet-tart taste and crunchy-chewy texture, I love these because . . . . . Cherry White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

“SHARE OUR SIMILARITIES; CELEBRATE OUR DIFFERENCES.”  M. Scott Peck

Cherry White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies | From My Sweet Heart

I was so thrilled to participate in THE GREAT FOOD BLOGGER COOKIE SWAP 2011!  First of all, I have to give a huge thank you to Julie at The Little Kitchen and Lindsay at Love And Olive Oil for all of their efforts and hard work in making this happen.  I can’t imagine what it took to pull off something of this magnitude.  But I only hope it was as much fun for them as it was for us!  I’m so happy to have been introduced to some fabulous new blogs and some really great people!  I can’t wait till next year!  If you are interested in participating next year, you can sign up here.

It was equally exciting to visit the blogs of those I would be sending cookies to; and then again those that I received cookies from!  Everyone writes with a different voice and style, but we are all brought together by our love for cookies!  And now I have 6 more sources of inspiration!

I chose to make a chewy, cherry and white chocolate chunk oatmeal cookie.  It is one of my favorites (it’s hard for me to resist any recipe that calls for a tablespoon of vanilla in it!).  And my lighting wasn’t ideal so my cherries look more like raisins (which I love…but not in cookies!).  So I took a close up. . . . .
