Actually, I like carrots.  Though I prefer them cooked than raw.  And even so much better when nestled in sweet cakey goodness! Yet somehow, I still feel healthy when I eat any baked good containing carrots!

These are a cinch to make and very very moist and flavorful.  It was originally a cake recipe and the tops came out kind of flat.  But that was actually the best part.  It taste like a carrot cookie on top of a carrot cake! [Read more...]

In the culinary world, we speak so often to ‘depth of flavor’ and layering of seasoning and spices.  Honestly, to me, sometimes keeping it extremely simple is best.  I love to experiment with some over the top flavor combinations. But there are those times when I just want to enjoy a basic sugar cookie, or a piece of buttery shortbread, or a spongy madeleine.  And for the first snowfall of the season, I always bake a “snowcake”; a simple bundt cake lavishly dusted with powdered sugar.  The common ingredient in all of these treats? . . . . .

Sweet Cream Ice Cream | From My Sweet Heart

I know what you are thinking.  Vanilla ice cream?  Really?  How exciting can that be???  But sometimes you just have to start with the basics.  And this sweet cream ice cream is the perfect canvas for so many creations.  There is basically nothing much else in this ice cream but cream and sugar.  In the picture, I’ve topped it with some Himalayan Pink Salt.  (Yes….call me crazy, but I LOVE salt on my ice cream!!!)  And since temperatures reached the low 80′s here in Washington, D.C. today, it seemed like a good way to end my day.  I promise that soon, this sweet cream ice cream will make another NOT SO INNOCENT appearance!!!  Be on the lookout and read on for the recipe, and to see how I jazzed it up today. A Legendary Chocolate Chip Cookie | From My Sweet Heart

This Neiman Marcus cookie never really existed.  But this is how the legend goes.  A woman and her daughter had lunch at the cafe in a Neiman Marcus in Dallas.  After enjoying this cookie for dessert, she asked the waitress for the recipe.  The waitress informed her that the recipe could be sold to her for ‘two fifty’.  The woman agreed to purchase it.  When she got her bill later that month, she realized the the recipe she believed she was purchasing for $2.50, actually cost her $250.00!  She was so enraged when the store would not refund her money, that she decided to email the recipe to all her friends, encouraging them to pass it along also.  Apparently, Neiman Marcus did not feature a cafe in any of their Dallas stores, nor did they sell chocolate chip cookies at the time.  But since, [Read more...]

Chocolate Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting | From My Sweet Heart

So I live in D.C. where there are an abundance of cupcake bakeries.  And it occurred to me one day….that I could do that!  Okay.  Maybe not in mass.  But I was certainly capable of making something better than a funfetti cupcake!  I am starting off the first post of this very new blog with this cupcake.  Because this was my first attempt at making a “fancy cupcake”.  And it is one of the most scrumptious things…..
